Another gem from Dr. Fred Erskine’s video collection, via Rick Suchow.
Rick shares: “This never-before-heard version of Jaco’s “Teen Town” is musically unique and worth hearing. After the tune ends, all four band members walk to the front of the stage to thank crowd. Recorded live 1978, Reading, PA. Weather Report: Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine.”
Credits from Peter Erskine: “My father Dr. Fred Erskine shot the Washington and Reading videos of Jaco w/ WR (1978). The sound came direct from the front-of-house mix board, engineered by Brian Risner, and my dad was using an old RCA video camera (at least one of those shows without a tripod), a heavy beast of a thing.”
MARAVILLOSOS

Does anyone know if there exists footage of Jaco performing with Joni Mitchell at Merriweather Post Pavillion in 1979-80? In Columbia, MD

Some of the best stuff I’ve ever heard!
Right around that time they played at The Long Beach auditorium it was newly built seen them many times, but that was One of the best shows ever it was being professionally video taped but never sawthat video
It looks like one of Peter Erskine father’s homevideos with an existing soundboard recording audio combined. Nice!
could have done with some more lights…apart from that ….wow.
definitivamente, los jefes, ademas por su originalidad, porque fue creado, no copiado, o parecido a.
Tremendo.
Used to go hangout in the village in the 80’s. Small club, when he had breaks or was over, he’d come over and hang with me and do cocktails..
Just incredible
Always wished Zawinul wouldn’t double that bassline.
Everyone else still catching up with Jaco. Love it . X
Uma lastima a perda prematura DP mahp Jaco Pastorius…
This group and This music are an éternel sunshine.
Обожаю Жако…
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this treasure!
I saw them on this same tour in Milwakee,WI at the Riverside theater. Awesome.
F’g Jaco – nothing to say…amazing. Sad story though. I grew up in Norristown, Pa – local hero. Guy was one of a kind
I play a little electric jazz bass….very slowly. How Jaco (or anyone else for that matter) was able to play with such speed, accuracy and feeling is beyond my comprehension.
Jaco & Peter smokin!!!
Grandi!!!! Jaco UNICO!!!!!!!
watching him perform..i thought the man actually had more than 10 fingers while playing.
Where in Reading was this show?
Better than perfect. I was lucky to see them around this time period too. Classic. Inspiring indeed
What a great jaco! n d GRP! jamming w/ a sense
Saw the band with Acuna…Done!… but Pete kills it here.
Jaco !! Superman !!
WOW!
The Best.. ..
From 5.50m on is a spectacular demonstration of why Jaco changed the way that we understand and enjoy the bass, having taken it out of the limitations of the rhythm section and placed it in the forefront of the most extraordinary exploration into the potential of the modern bass… 30 years later one can always expect a moment of unrivalled brilliance in any show that you have not seen before…. this piece after 5.50 is simply extraordinary… thanks to Fred Erskine and Rick Suchow for the clip
Not able to see it in US of A 🙁
Not able to see it in Denmark, either …
i am from spain , but he was my “TOTEM” . his sound was like strings and winds at the same time. a new instrument!!!. only can say one word ; MAGIC .

He was and still is the BEST!!
What was he thinking? Could you just imagine the altitude we could obtain if he were still here? Extraordinary!!!! Happy Birthday Jaco! …..RIP!
Ww all miss Jaco…
the Greatest ever….amazing….my hero Jaco….
The best!
God… I want to go out and burn my basses……..And to think I saw him with Wayne Cochran decades ago, and didin’t know who he was…..years before I started playing. Well, you’re never to old to start doing the right thing! Thank You, JACO!
To me he was the best then and still is… Genius
King of 5 string bandless. Looking for videos and recordings, where he plays that danish Mørch-guitar.
……………………….!
Nothing to say except JACO will always remain to me as an icon and a trailblazer who discovered a brand new approach to music and to Bass playing. Hats off to Jaco forever for his contribution to music.
Jaco..the ONLY ONE !
brilliant as always !
