In the mid-80’s, Jaco visited Musicians Institute and talked about his process and more. MI recently discovered this rare footage in their vault and made the entire segment available for us all to enjoy.
“Despite the glitchy video, the bassist’s signature sound rings loud & clear as he unveils the secrets of his virtuosity in this once-in-a-lifetime,” MI shared.
Great with Frank Gambale…
Amazing and so insightful, thank you so much for sharing this!!!!
It’s fantastic that MI found this tape. Too bad they couldn’t find the tracking control.
oh, you don’t get to see and hear Frank Gambale in that lineup!..Definately great Jam. Love it
I’ve told this story many times but it’s worth bringing it up again. Some friends and I went to see Steve Morse at The Beacon theater I think. We had balcony seats and sitting by himself in our section was Jaco and he was Rocking out in his seat to Steves music. Steve had an intermission to go to the bar in the lobby. I was waiting on line to get a drink when someone accidentally hit me in the back of the head. I turn around only to be face to face with Jaco himself. He had just accidentally spun around and hit me with his arm but he just stared at me with no response. Of course I knew it was Jaco and was very forgiving. No apology but who cares.
Thanks for sharing awesome bassist
Briliant and eloquent. Most importantly, honest and straightforward.
Great musician
Han Yu Lin

he`s so humble.
Wow, never seen Jaco with a JayDee Supernatural before

The mutual props between him and Jeff Berlin is wonderful to see captured.
This is awesome… I love his candor.

I am in awe. Who is the moden day Jaco?
Thanks…..always a pleasure to see HIM.
If this is the MI in Hollywood ,CA, this is where Norm had his show to raise $$ for the MI. Ritchie S. robben Ford etc where great.
Jaco playing on a Jaydee Supernatural, wow. Mark King played one of those for a while too.
I am sooo mesmerized. Always loved him, but this, I can barely get thru. I have to stop and go back, I haven’t gotten thru the whole thing yet, I have to think about it for a few days then go back again and watch a little bit more. This is such fantastic treat!!! Please influence me beautiful Jaco!!!
Not many interviews like this…great musician and such a cool modest guy..!!
I am sure my dad’s old Hitachi VCR had a knob that you could turn to stop the tape from flicking so much ! Just goes to show he gets his signature sound regardless of bass – he doesn’t sound like Mark King on the Jaydee… just awesome…
Thank you Jaco for all you have shared with us….you are a true inspiration.
amazing
