“Free Man in Paris” appeared on Joni Mitchell’s 1974 album Court and Spark. But it never sounded better than this live version with Jaco and Michael Brecker turning up the heat in this performance from Shadows & Light.

Super!!!!….just needed a little more JACO!!,!!!
never heard Joni Mitchell sound so good !!Get It ?
I saw this tour in Providence RI in 78. Loved Jaco and all of these great musicians, but this song is missing all of the layered vocals on the original Court and Spark version. Maybe Joni should have hired some angelic background singers on this tour..
Who’s on bass? He was groovin’!
Jaco and Joni. It doesn’t get any better than this.
What a great voice to hear over and over again, She’s So Good ! Smooth Song with Groove!
this was easily the best backing band Joni ever had; Lyle mays on keyboards, Pat metheny on guitar, Jaco on bass Michael brecker on saxes Don Alias on drums and congas!!! and they toured. It doesn’t get better….ever.
Great Band !

Love it! Want to see the entire show!
True groove. Best version in my opinion
Wow. All of these players at their best and Joni’s voice at its peak as well. I remember seeing Jaco the night before he was going out with Weather Report. He walked into a little Ft. Lauderdale club (The Zoo?) with his mother and asked the band who was playing if he could sit in and play for his mother. What a monster player–along with Stanley Clark, two of the greatest. This was a tour and band for the ages.
Is that Tom Scott on sax?
What an incredible talent…
Jaco was the best musician of all time.
Jaco Pastorius on bass guitar…NE Hs grad. 1969…voted most likely to succeed. He did.
Classic….classic Joni – get well soon!
still lovin it
wow…..
Jaco the great!!!
Great…..just great…wowow!!!
In my humble opinion, This musical line~up …was far superior than any others prior or to date for that matter!!. What kind of Genius could have occured if Jaco would’ve survived?RIP man
Joni Mitchell, so great, a consummate artist.
Great rendition
Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker AND Pat Metheny too!
