Weather Report’s 1978 tour included stops in Reading and Washington, Pennsylvania. The line-up included Jaco, Joe Zawinul (keys), Wayne Shorter (sax) and Peter Erskine (drums).
Thankfully Peter’s father – Dr. Fred Erskine – was there and filmed both shows.
Peter shared with Rick Suchow, “The sound came direct from the front-of-house mix board, engineered by Brian Risner, and my dad was using an old RCA video camera (at least one of those shows without a tripod), a heavy beast of a thing.”
One of my favorite tunes ever… written by Joe Zawinul and made magical by Jaco and his fretless.
Wonderful – fortunate to have seen this line up in London
Fantastic!
The best !
Fuiste mi ídolo..
¡grande Jaco!

Long time ago but so present.
Very soft
My favorite group. e with the magnificent Jaco.
Wonderful. 4 of my favorite musicians on the same stage and the band that has meant so much to me. And I keep coming back to.
Thanks. The world is now a better place.
I was fortunate to be at this performance in Readong. Weather Report quartet version at their peak.
Wow this was before I started!!

EXCELLENT
One of my favorite songs to turn to after a busy day. A masterpiece.
I was also there, front row center seat.Jaco jumped shirtless and fretless from a tall ladder to center stage after a lead in from Ravel’s Bolero,
Jaco bass doesn’t just give us sound…it sings to us with his soul and his spirit

I’ve never forget to listen to his play first time that I’ve gone to live concert by Word of Mouth Band about twenty years ago in Tokyo.
Nothing more to add…great stuff. Are there still today artists of this valiber?

WHEN FUSION RULED, WEATHER REPORT WAS A GAP THAT FILLED OUR EARS WITH GREAT IMAGINATION. FROM THE ALEX ACUNA , ALFONSE JOHNSON,MANOLA BADRENA ,WAYNE AND JOE DAYS TOTHE BRILLIANCE OF THE FAB FOUR, JOE ZAWINAL, WAYNE SHORTER, JACO PASTORIUS,AND PETER ERSKINE!
I was there to witness this amazing night of music by these legendary musicians.
♡
One of my favorite WR songs … no, one of my favorite songs. Everyone sounds in top form. A little local flavor here too, which is nice (I live about a half hour from Reading).
Joe Z. gave Jaco his first drink…should not even be shown in this video!!!!!!!!!
Real music by real musicians just perfect!
Music that trancends time,Jaco and Joe RIP.
Jaco and Wayne were Giants, Joe an awesome composer, Peter always reliable with tasteful support. A beautiful ballad.
Jaco was a master!! I still attempt to learn many of his techniques to be a better bassist
just a wonderful mix of talent!
Excelente
I love it at 4:28 as they begin the vamp, Joe’s soloing, outta nowhere, Jaco bends over and raps something percusion with a mallet and then looks at Erskine with that shit eatin’ grin like only Jaco could give and right back to his axe like it never happened, Jaco Classic!

always feel something hearing that one…nostalgic, humble and lovely, indeed
…that’s what I feel!
Great band. Was fortunate enought to see them in the 70s amsterdam
Thanks so much for sharing! Looking forward to the next one you post!!
Incredible performance by these four at their peak! Just like a peaceful conversation of these four talented players.
Joe and Jaco were pivotal in that their style and technique transcended music from that point on, not unlike Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendericks, Erick Clapton did for guitar. All bassists from Jaco’s time on were influenced by him as was Joe’s style upon keyboardists.
Beautiful. Thank you
que manera de tocar tan hermoso y original
, y sigue siendo mi ídolo a través del tiempo,
No rock and roll there
The best jazz band ever, genial stuff
Like to see it at whole
Very grateful for this.
Fantastico!
Hammer geil!!!
Just GREAT!!!!
My best friends mother back in 75/76 was Dr. Erskine’s secretary. We spent a lot of time on their property. He mentioned a couple times that Dr. Erskine’s son was a drummer but I didn’t realize until 30 years later who he was. As a huge Weather Report fan I love seeing this video regardless of all of that stuff.
Lovely!
Fascinante, definitivamente un maravilloso fragmento de una de las mejores producciones de estos monstruos del Jazz! Esquista!!

Jaco is da Joint !!!

Adoro esta canción…
great original beautiful music- only this 4 could do what they did- miss to go to WR concerts
one of the most exiteing things u could do ever.
magnifique !
Extraaa !!!
Amazing, powerful and a group which inspired my young self to cope being away overseas in the military, respect to four genius of sound, and two great musical legends, and I was born in Pennsylvania. R
It’s still sad to know that so many of the WR guys are gone. Jaco was too soon. Just imagine what music would be like today of musical geniuses like Jaco were still here influencing music.
jaco was the master only person that reminds me of him is tal wickenfeld
Always loved this song. Bought the vinyl album in 1978.
Modern jazz pioneers at their best
We miss this genius..
Beautiful!!! Forever!!
So lucky to hear him play live with Joni Mitchell in the early 80s at tangle wood. Memorable.
Awesome!
Love it,timeless!
Very nice, brings back good memory’s
Really one of the greatest bands ever
Really one of the greatest bands ever
If I had to pick an all time favourite track, this is it. However, the quality of this is off-putting. There are many versions by WR available. I also love the big band version from Zawinul’s ‘Brown Street’.
AWESOME saxophonist
Great performance, great band, great influence.
Joseph Zawinul passed also away…Incredible musicians…
Perfect today, perfect then …. A timeless gem.

I heard him a few times. Once, by chance, I was in a bar in a hotel in St. Petersberg, Fl. Jaco walked i and walked on stage and took the bass from the bass player and just started playing.
Ogni volta che li risento mi viene la pelle d’oca…
Really nice miss those guys
exelente jacooooooooooooooooooo
Wow
Eric Clapton has said his goal is to make people weep with just a single note. The closest I’ve heard is Shorter, who plays a THREE-note phrase in this song that moves me beyond words.
Great, I can listen to this over and over again. I love these guys
The most Beautiful sunset
I ever Heard….
It’s like a blank canvas being filled up with life-injecting vibrant brush strokes ; there emerges a great landscape painting with myriad hues and behold…. a picture that tells many a mellifluous story with a fantastic melody & harmony structure, creating many moods……few bands can solo & sync with such precision as Weather Report !

That kit just screams “The 80s are coming!!”
For ever great!!!
THE sound of Music !!!!!!!!
Just beautiful.
La música no tiene barreras de tiempo, espacio u intereses económicos solo se inspira y se oye.
Music has no barriers of time, space or economic interests alone is inspired and heard.
Can’t get any better. The masters. Forever missed

Jaco’s performance is stunning.
Put away the T-Bird and got out the Jazz……………………………………………………………………….
Rick,
You really need to contact me.
I was both at the Reading concert and at the Tower.
I saw the tour bus outside the Tower and snuck in for the sound check.
They trew me out.
They did me favor.
What could I possibly say to him?
Time goes on and we must try and chart a new path despite our losses.
Someday I will visit his grave as I recently did Mcfadden’s it being much closer.
Both are Gods that deserve honor.
