PARA MI JACO ES EL LEGADO MAS GRANDE DE COMO SE DEBE TOCAR EL GUITARBASS EN EL JAZZ ESTE COLOR DE SONIDO ES UTILISABLE TANTO EN EL
JAZZ COMO EN EL POP Y EL FUNK.
CONOSCO MAS BAJISTAS QUE UTILIZEN LA ECUALIZACION DE JACO Y SIGAN PATRONES ESTIPULADOS POR ESTE QUE GENTE POR LO MENOS QUE TOQUE LA LA TABLA COMO JOHN PATITUCCI POR EJEMPLO.
LES RECOMIENDO ESCUCHAR A LUIS ANGEL PASTOR BAJISTA DE CARLOS VIVES.
ESE SI MANEJA UN CONCEPTO DE FUCION MUY IMPRESIONANTE.

I think Jaco kicks ass, but Flea is also a very very great bassplayer, so is Victor Wooten!

Wow-o-wow, what a list going on here.....you have all set me up with new faves and set me down with love for old ones. All I think I /should/ do at this point is add a few not often mentioned, since y'all's list has most all of mine.

Ok, ok...I know what I said, but Geddy Lee was my main and biggest influence ever....that said...

Check out these guys...

Norm Stockton (look for his site on the web, or see my rantings about more than-four-string-basses in the "age old question" section)

Phil Lesh of Grateful Dead fame...if you were there, you know. If you weren't you'll need to find live recordings and listen. Contact me if you can't I'll hook you up.

and, and, and, ACK!....brain lock-up When I remember his name I'll post it, sorry.

Someone else that I rate very highly - not merely because I was lucky enough to have a few lessons with him - is a British player called Jim Richardson. (You can still catch Jim on the London jazz circuit.)

Jim began as a double-bass player, and has more or less gone back to that instrument full-time. However, he played bass guitar for a classic British jazz-rock band, If, in the late 60s/early 70s. If you want to hear a master bass-player creating wonderful lines on a Fender Jazz Bass (in the context of great band arrangements with a horn section led by the late Dick Morrissey), check out the "Forgotten Roads - The Best Of If" compilation on Sequel.

AH HA! I remembered his name. Frode Berg. I found him on the web after I recieved a Carvin Claro Walnut 6-string as a wedding gift from my wife, and followed some links from the carvin site. Really talented super cool player.

Hey GrooveMongrel, do you remember the website's address for Frode Berg? I believe I've heard about him also, not sure. Thanks...

The eyes of the audience might be looking at the singing star but the butts are all moving to the bass guitar

That´s a really cool list I´d have to agree about all of those bassists except Green Day and Goldfinger.

Tip: listen to Opeth
